Some people might argue that writing an article about being humble automatically makes you arrogant – I will be the first to disagree. It takes a huge level of maturity to recognize your humility in all situations. I definitely understand that success (if you allow yourself) can lead to getting a big head. Here are 2 things I do to stay level headed.
Volunteer
There is a lot as an individual to benefit from giving up their time and energy. Regardless, there’s a segment of the population that needs happy volunteers and mentors. I decided on helping kids through the Queens Foundation and the Miracle League of the Triangle. Even though, I have some emotional ties to their causes, I ultimately give because there is a need. You quickly learn that those needs are plentiful and there is always more to give. The kids I work with are always grateful and bring me joy to dedicate my time to them. This reminds me to be grateful that I am blessed and I have time to spare for them.
Always Remember the Past
My childhood was my childhood – there were good times and there were tragic times. One theme that was always drilled in my head is that I don’t deserve anything and nothing is owed to me. Luckily, I never gained a sense of entitlement. I am grateful that I learned to recognize that I am blessed and that everyone deserves my respect. No matter how successful my business does, I will always reflect on how I was raised.
I strongly believe that staying level headed has helped my business grow with wonderful business partners and mentors. It allows me to be easier to work with, adapt to my audience and in general become a more likable person. Try to find something that helps you stay connected to others. What are you doing to keep you humble?
